Highlights of the campaign included the 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to a Bokšić goal. Boro came up against Arsenal in the semi-final of the FA Cup but were undone by a Gianluca Festa own goal at Old Trafford. In his second season with Boro, Bokšić would net 8 goals in all competitions. Allegedly the highest paid player in Britain at this time, Bokšić would spend one more season on Teesside before retiring in 2003.
